Sant Josep de Sa Talaia

Sant Josep de Sa Talaia

The town of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia is in the south of Ibiza and 15 kilometres from Ibiza city. It lies halfway along the road up to the highest peak on the island, Sa Talaia, which is 475 metres high. From its summit on clear days you can see right across to the Mediterranean coast of Spain and to the island of Mallorca. This, the wildest region of Ibiza, contains landscapes of outstanding beauty such as the beaches of Cala d’Hort and the impressive islet of Es Vedrā just offshore, the famous nudist beach of Es Cavallet and the nature reserve of Ses Salines and the Phoenician archaeological site of Sa Caleta, both of which are listed as part of Ibiza’s world heritage by UNESCO.

Sant Josep is home to a community of permanent residents on the island and so has shops, bars, restaurants and other services to meet the needs of the local populace. The most important building in the town is the church, which was reformed in the 18th century, as were almost all the churches on Ibiza, resulting in the building we see today.
