In 1229 the Christian troops of Jaume I of Catalonia and Aragon conquered Mallorca, incorporating the island into the domain of the Crown of Aragon and reintroducing Christianity; this is also the time at which the island fell into the ambit of Catalan culture. The island was divided amongst the feudal lords and ecclesiastical bodies which had participated in the conquest with the Crown.
