Beaches in Palma de Mallorca

The beach of S´Arenal or Platja de Palma is spread between the municipalities of Palma de Mallorca and Llucmajor; it is 4,600m long and 50m wide. Prior to the construction of the tourist resort of S´Arenal, the area possessed one of the largest dune systems on Mallorca, of which some remains are still visible. The destruction of the dune system has caused serious problems in the natural regeneration of sand, as is the case with many other beaches on Mallorca, and to replace sand whipped away by storms new sands are extracted from the sea bed. In summer the beach gets very busy, as many tourists flock here, especially from Germany, to enjoy their holidays at the resort´s hotels. There is a promenade which runs the entire length of the beach and this is where the popular balnearis (open-air bars) are located, the most popular of which is Number 6.
Services: bars and restaurants; shops; showers; sun loungers, parasols, pedal boats and sailboards for hire; water-skiing; volleyball nets, etc.

Cala Major is a beach located in a densely populated area; it is 250m long and 30m wide. It can be reached via the street of Carrer Gavina, very close to which is a bus stop. It is well protected from the cold wind from the north, making it an ideal spot for swimming during the cooler periods of the year. The Palace of Marivent, which is used as a residence by the King and Queen of Spain during their summer holiday, is situated at one end of the cove. For security reasons, boats are not allowed to anchor here.
Services: all kinds of bars and restaurants; shops; sun loungers, parasols and pedal boats for hire.

Beach of Can Pere Antoni This artificial beach is located in front of the cathedral of La Seu, next to the palm-fringed promenade with a cycle path which runs the entire length of the Bay of Palma. The beach has a 735m stretch of sand and it reaches a width of 25 metres. The best way to reach the beach is on foot from the city centre. If you plan to go by car, there are parking facilities at Parc de la Mar and there is a free car park at Portitxol, next to the other end of the beach.
Services: restaurant; sun loungers and parasols for hire.

Es Portitxolet This is a small beach which is 90m long and 28m wide and which is located a bit further on from the port of Es Portitxol; to reach it you have to take the Passeig Marítim towards the airport and turn off towards the neighbourhood of Portitxol before reaching the motorway. The beach is surrounded by houses, most of which are the simple, low-rise constructions which are typical in this residential area.
Services: there are good restaurants in the area which are well known for their fish specialities.

Beach of Ciutat Jardí; This sandy beach is located in the residential area of Ciutat Jardí; it is 450m long and 45m wide and is protected from bad weather by a series of jetties. Surrounded by low-rise buildings, many of which have gardens, this pleasant zone also houses the park of La Torre d´en Pau. This beach is very popular with Mallorcans.
Services: bars and restaurants; shops; free showers and washing facilities; sun loungers and parasols for hire.

Cala Estància is a sandy beach which is 220m long and 40m wide; it is located on the street of Carrer Nanses, in the area of Can Pastilla, which gets very busy in summer. It is protected from waves by jetties, which mean the water is very calm.
Service: bars and restaurants; shops; sun loungers and parasols.
