Santa Eugènia

Santa Eugènia

Sant Eugènia is part of the district of Es Pla in Mallorca. Basically flat, nevertheless its territory includes highly interesting landscape, such as Puig de Sant Eugènia and Son Seguí (320 metres high), carpeted with carefully tended forests and the site of a hermitage with beautiful panoramic views.

The taujans, or farmers, in this rustic and charming municipality, still live largely from agriculture, based especially on cereals and wine. Its close location to the capital and the air of tranquillity that characterises the village has made it a favourite area for second homes in recent years.

The most interesting elements in the village of Santa Eugènia are its austere eighteenth-century parish church, the windmills at Es Puget, among which Can Camarada is of note, the Franciscan convent, an ancient restored water reservoir and the Jewish cemetery, the only one on Mallorca, located next to the Christian cemetery.

The pre-historic remains that can be found in the municipality, such as the site at Es Rafal, with its great talayot, and several pre-talayotic caves close to the hamlet of Ses Coves, bear witness to the area´s ancient character. Lastly, an excursion to the area should include a visit to Ses Olleries and Ses Alqueries, two charming hamlets that well deserve to be seen.

Natura Parc
