Colònia de Sant Jordi

Colònia de Sant Jordi

La Colònia de Sant Jordi is a tourist resort located in a magnificent setting in the south of Mallorca, within the municipality of Ses Salines. Amongst the natural spaces of the unspoilt beaches of the Platjes de Trenc are Es Dolç and Es Carbó, the most extensive stretches of sand on the island which have been preserved in their natural state. The archipelago of Cabrera, which is a natural park, is 7 miles from the port of La Colònia de Sant Jordi, which is the departure point for boats which visit this unique group of islands.

This resort is primarily made up of summer houses; nevertheless, there are also low-rise apartments and hotels, which provide most of the accommodation for tourists who choose Colònia de Sant Jordi for their holidays. There is also a wide range of bars, restaurants, shops and all the other services required to ensure that visitors fully enjoy their holidays by the sea. Those looking for lively nights will find what they´re looking for here at weekends during the summer.

The origins of La Colònia de Sant Jordi go back to the end of the 19th century, which is when the first fishermen´s houses were built, followed by the holiday homes which were built by wealthy families from neighbouring villages. Important prehistoric and Phoenician remains, from times predating the Roman conquest of Mallorca, have been found in this area. On the islet of Na Guardis, which lies in front of La Colònia de Sant Jordi, Carthaginian merchants from the neighbouring island of Ibiza established a small colony in the 4th century BC, which was used to trade in the salt which was extracted in this area, and which is still extracted today in the area of Salobrar de Campos, near the beach of Es Trenc.

Restaurante Can Pep Serra
